Vio were appointed by the electrical services contractor, Phoenix, to design and install a cabling solution capable of supporting the university’s voice and data communications requirements.  A two-part solution was adopted, with a Cat 6 LSOH solution for all office and studio areas, cables from separate IT cabs located on each floor throughout the building.  Each cab in turn was linked by a second part 62.5 Multicore fibre offering further resilience.

A Hellerman Net 6 cabling solution was installed throughout the building as this offered the best balance between performance and price, as well as a Lifetime performance warranty against the finished installation. The installation utilised Low Smoke, Zero Halogen (LSZH) sheather cable to nearly 600 outlets.  The main, open plan offices on the first, second and third floors had been fitted with raised floors, making a floor box distribution system the obvious choice.  Each floor box was fitted with four Hellerman outlets, with spare cable left under the floor to allow the floor boxes to be move up to two metres in any direction in the future.

Simon Collingbourne, Phoenix Project Manager, made the following statement: “Throughout the duration of the contract, Vio’s proactive project management and progress reporting was first class.  The fact that the site went from brown field to completion in just eleven months meant that the cabling had to be installed in a compressed timescale.  Vio’s ability to address issues arising, such as rework caused by other parties or changes to our schedule, meant fewer problems on our plate.  Looking at the completed installation, I cannot fault the quality of the work and would certainly recommend Vio to any company undertaking a similar project.”
